Osh Province

The Osh region ( областы kirgis. Ош; Russian Ошская область ) is one of seven regions ( oblast) located in Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia. It lies in the central south of the country and is bounded on the north by Uzbekistan and in the south of Tajikistan and the People's Republic of China. The region has an area of ​​29,200 km ² and about 1.3 million inhabitants. The population density is relatively high with 44 inhabitants per km ².

History

For area counted to 1999, the present territory of Batken, which was then separated from political and religious grounds. Since the area is adjacent to the high mountains of Tajikistan, it was during the protracted civil war as a retreat for the Islamist fighting groups.
