OSIRIS-REx

OSIRIS - REx (. Abbreviation for Origins Spectral Interpretation Resource Identification Security - Regolith Explorer, German about: origins Spektralinterpretation Resource Identification Security - Regolitherforscher ) is a planned spacecraft as part of the New Frontiers Program of NASA.

In the 3rd quarter of 2007 was awarded the project proposal, then merely called OSIRIS, $ 1.2 million from NASA to prepare an engineering study. At the time of the start of 2011 was planned, with landing on the asteroid RQ36 in 2013 and 2017, the return to Earth with 150 g of sample material.

On 25 May 2011, NASA has announced that as part of this mission to the probe for near-Earth asteroid ( 101955 ) Bennu fly. The startup 1685 kg mass spacecraft to be launched in 2016, reach the asteroid in 2020, take a soil sample and 7 years later reach the earth.
