Oskar Bie

Oscar Bie ( born February 9, 1864 in Breslau, † April 21, 1938 in Berlin) was a German music and art historian and publicist.

Life

Bie studied philosophy, art and music history at the universities of Breslau, Leipzig and Berlin. In 1886 he received his doctorate and his habilitation in 1890 at the Technical University Berlin for art history.

1894-1922 he headed the New German Rundschau (formerly Free Stage, later Neue Rundschau ). It developed under his editorial to one of the leading cultural monthly magazine in Germany. As an opera, music and art critic, he worked for the Berlin stock exchange Courier and the world stage.

1901 Bie became a professor and taught since 1921 Aesthetics at the Academy of Music in Berlin. As a Jewish author, he received after 1933 publication ban, his books were not allowed to be reissued.
