Oskar Nedbal

Oskar Nedbal ( born March 26, 1874 in Tabor, † December 24, 1930 in Zagreb) was a Bohemian composer and conductor.

Life

Nedbal, son of a German - and Czech-speaking family, was born in Tábor in southern Bohemia, at that time in the monarchy of Austria - Hungary. Studies at the Prague Conservatory as a pupil of Anton Bennewitz and Antonín Dvořák. 1892-1906 violist and organizer of the Bohemian String Quartet to its world-wide fame he has made ​​an outstanding contribution. Co-founder and conductor of the Czech Philharmonic. 1906-1919 Principal Conductor and founder of the Viennese Composers Orchestra, at the same time there celebrated operetta composer. After the founding of Czechoslovakia, he was from 1923 to 1930 Head of the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava ( Bratislava). Nedbal died on 24 December 1930 in Agram (Zagreb) in Croatia accidental death in the ballet hall of the theater in Zagreb. Recognition

In 1953 ( 22nd District ) was named after him in the Nedbalgasse Vienna Danube city. In his native town of Tabor, a theater named after him.
