The University of Oslo (Norwegian: Høgskolen i Oslo) short HiO - was a State university in Oslo and with 11,000 students and almost 1,100 scientific staff, the largest of its kind in Norway. The University of Oslo was created in 1994 from a merger of several schools in Oslo and was divided into seven faculties. Last rector of the university was Sissel Østberg. To August 1, 2011, the university merged with the University of Oslo Akershus. She calls herself since college Oslo / Akershus ( Oslo og Akershus Høgskolen i ).

A large part of the university Oslo / Akershus is housed in a former brewery in the center of Oslo.
