Oslotunnel

The Oslo Tunnel ( Norwegian called Oslo Tunnelen ) is a railway tunnel in Oslo, Norway between Oslo S train stations and Skøyen. It connects the western railway lines to the east. The tunnel is 3635 meters long and expanded twofold. The National Theatre is an underground train station. On a part of the route, the tunnel shares the route with the subway (T -bane ). There, the subway runs in a second floor above the railroad.

Oslo Tunnel was formerly also the name for the road tunnel of the E18 between the storage building and Havnelageret Frognerkilen. To avoid confusion, this was renamed the fortress tunnel ( hard Happenings Tunnelen ) in 1998.

History

The construction of the tunnel was adopted in 1968 but not completed until 1980. Thus, the western and eastern railway lines were connected, the previously each of the stations Oslo V ( Vestbanen ) and Oslo ended Ø ( Østbanen ).

In the original plan, two stations were provided in the tunnel - Elisenberg and National Theater ( Nationaltheatret ). With the construction of both stations was begun, but only National Theatre was extended ready, first with a platform, two tracks and an exit to the east. In 1999, the station was enlarged and got four tracks, which is of 16 elevated the capacity of the tunnel to 24 trains per hour in each direction. At the same time an additional station west exit received. King Harald V opened the rebuilt station National Theatre on December 6, 1999.
