Osmancık

Osmancık is a town and a district of the Turkish province of Çorum. The city is located about 50 kilometers north of the provincial capital of Çorum on the highway E-80, which runs from Portugal via Istanbul, Amasya, Erzurum and Ağrı to Iran.

The district is located in the northeast of the province. It is bordered on the north by the provinces of Sinop and Samsun, on the east by the province of Amasya on the south, Laçin, Dodurga and Oğuzlar, on the west by İskilip and to the northwest by Kargı. The city Osmancık lies in the valley of the river Kizilirmak between the Kavakdağ the south and the 1732 meter high Cal Dagi in the north.

In the Ottoman period was called the village Aflanos. The present name means "little Osman " and is an epithet ( lakab ) Osman I.
