Osmanya alphabet

The Osmaniya font (also Osmanija, Osmanya or Ciismaniya ) is a system of writing 1920-1922 by Osman Yuusuf Keenadiid - was developed for the Somali language - the brother of the Sultan of Hobyo. It was one of several attempts to Verschriftung of Somaliland, in addition, there have been several ideas that emanated from the Latin or Arabic. Osmaniya is one of the few alphabets that are not based on a different, more established writing.

After independence, Somalia was Osmaniya, as well as the Latin alphabet in 1961 official script. After 1972 decided on standardization and Verschriftung of Somaliland for the Latin alphabet, decreased importance and use of the Osmaniya significantly.
