Osmond Fisher

Reverend Osmond Fisher ( born November 17 1817 in Osmington, Dorset, England; † July 12, 1914 in Huntingdon, England ) was an English geologist and geophysicist.

Life and career

Fisher studied from 1835 at Jesus College, Cambridge University. In 1852 he became a member of the Geological Society of London in 1879 and an honorary member of the King's College London. Fisher was one of the first scientists who brought mathematics to geology. He studied the formations of Dorsetshire, East - Agrlia and the Isle of Wight. In 1858 he became vicar of Elmstead and 1887 Rector in Harlton at Cambridge.

Fisher in 1893 with the Murchison Medal and in 1913 was awarded the Wollaston Medal.
