Osprey Osprey I

The Pereira X -28 Sea Skimmer was a single-seat flying boat designer George Pereira of privacy. It was not only known as Sea Skimmer but as I Osprey. The U.S. Navy announced the development of the aircraft by the Naval Air Development Center as part of a study. It should be investigated whether small civilian aircraft would be suitable to carry out surveillance flights in Southeast Asia. This made ​​it necessary that the aircraft was flying under visual flight conditions, was very light, not more than $ 5,000 cost and could be manufactured in Asia. The aircraft was therefore made ​​in wood construction with Sperrholzbeplankung.

The first flight took place on 12 August 1970. The only built copy of Pereira X -28 is at the Kalamazoo Aviation History Museum.
