Osroes I of Parthia

Osroes I. ( on coins and Greek Chosroes ) was a Parthian king, who reigned from about 89 to 128. He was the brother of his predecessor Pacorus. In 113 Emperor Trajan was planning an attack on Parthia. Pretext was Armenia, where one of the Parthian ruler inserted page ( Parthamasiris, son of Pacorus ) ruled what was done without consultation with Rome. Osroes I sent in 113 ambassadors to Athens to dissuade the Emperor and avert a war, but received no answer.

The following year, Trajan marched into Armenia, where he met with no resistance and where Parthamasiris arose immediately, but died a short time later. In the following years some Parthian vassal states ( Edessa ) was conquered and in 116 he conquered the capital of Ctesiphon. Then Trajan marched into the Charakene whose ruler was also found immediately. Shortly thereafter, but there were several rebellions in the back of the Romans (including the Jews had risen ). After the death of Trajan renounced the Emperor Hadrian on the majority of the conquest and took back the border.

Osroes I had to fight during his whole reign, not only with the Romans, but also with a rival king. Vologaeses III, who ruled well, especially in the east of the empire. After 128 Osroes I is no longer occupied on coins and Vologaeses III. seems to have taken over the power in Parthia final.
