Ossian Ray

Ossian Ray ( born December 13, 1835 in Hinesburg, Chittenden County, Vermont; † January 28, 1892 in Lancaster, New Hampshire ) was an American politician. Between 1881 and 1885 he represented the State of New Hampshire in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In his childhood Ossian Ray came to Irasburg, Vermont. There and in Derby, he attended the public schools. After a subsequent study of law and its made ​​in 1857 admitted to the bar, he began practicing in his new profession in Essex County and Coos County. Since 1854 he was a resident of Lancaster. Between 1862 and 1872 he was a prosecutor in Coos County.

Ray was a member of the Republican Party. In the years 1868 and 1869 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from New Hampshire. In 1872 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia, where U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant was nominated for a second term. Between February 1879 and December 1880 he was United States Attorney for the District of New Hampshire.

After the death of Congressman Evarts Worcester Farr Ray was in the necessary by-election in the third district of New Hampshire as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected.
