Ostana

Ostana is a small alpine village with 78 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Cuneo (CN ), Region Piedmont. It is located at the headwaters of the Po, about 55 km southwest of Turin.

The municipality is 2006 Member of the Mountain Community Comunità Montana Valli Po, Bronda e Infernotto since ~.

Geography

The village lies about 1200 m above sea level in the mountainous upper part of the Po Valley, about 10 km as the crow from the sources of the Po removed in the Cozie Alps.

It lies on the north side of the main valley here partly wooded. Down by the river runs the " Via Valle Po " ( Strada Statale 662) that leads to the western mountains and to the east over Paesana Saluzzo and Turin.

The neighboring municipalities are Crissolo Oncino and Paesana in the Po Valley and beyond the northern mountain chain Bagnolo Piemonte and barge in Val Pellice.

The municipality of Ostana covers an area of about 16 km ².

Demographics

The village Ostana recorded since 1921 a constant, relatively rapid population loss. The so far highest population of 1187 (as of 1921) dropped to 68 now (as of 2006). In percentage terms, this corresponds to a population loss of over 93 % within 80 years. Recent investment in tourism ( in Crissolo ) to counteract.
