Osteochondroma

The terms osteochondroma, and cartilaginous exostosis Ekchondrom describe benign bone tumors. As long as the tumor is not ossified, one speaks of the Ekchondrom or kartilaginärer exostosis. As an osteochondroma of the tumor after ossification is called. These tumors grow stalked from the periarticular bone ( metaphysis ). It is the most common benign bone tumors. They make mostly shown by growth in childhood. After completion of bone growth in adulthood, the tumors do not usually grow further.

Symptoms are rare, and occur only if the tumor pressing on other structures such as nerves or blood vessels or impede the articulation. The tumor is usually not painful to pressure. Treatment is only necessary in case of complaints and consists in the fullest possible surgical removal. Course and prognosis are good, a malignant development is rare.
