Osterhagen is a district of Bad Loud Mountain in the district of Osterode am Harz, Lower Saxony, Germany with almost 800 residents. The town lies on the southern Harz between Bad Loud and Bad Sachsa.

Recent History

In July 1944, a satellite camp of concentration camp Dora -Mittelbau was built for 300 inmates, with the aim to finalize the route of the helmets Valley Railway between Osterhagen and Nordhausen in a former brick pit near Osterhagen. Today, a plaque and an information board located on the edge of the former camp site.

On July 1, 1972 Osterhagen was incorporated into the city of Bad Lauterberg.

Conservation

The karst trail leads south from Osterhagen through the nature reserve Steingrabental - Mack Röderswald. Not far from Easter Hagen is the vineyard hole, a supposed treasure cave in karst, around which many legends.
