Already in 1918 the establishment of a Munich Ost Park to his later Erbauungsort was first discussed. The park was realized but only in the course of planning for the Neuperlach in the 1960s.

1962 the construction of the Ost Park was formally adopted. 1965 Professor Romans developed a preliminary design for the park. On November 12, 1969, the decision fell on the first phase of 15.75 acres, the first construction work began. In 1973, the definitive work of the first phase of construction were carried out. Already on 18 June 1975, the city council decided the second phase, before the first section of the public was passed on 22 July 1975. On June 26 In 1979 came the second phase. The total area of the park of about 56 acres was officially opened on 27 May 1982. From 18 to 27 July 2003, a major festival for 30th anniversary of the park took place.

Characterization of the park

With the East Park grew out of a once flat arable land, a landscape park with lawns, tree-covered hills and bodies of water as a popular recreation area in the south-east of Munich.

The hills covered rubble, most of which was the construction of Neuperlach and the subway. In addition to a branched network of paths, a 3.5 -acre bay -rich lake with a large central island was created in the west of the park by landscape architect Joseph Wurzer, fed by groundwater wells. The originally planned supply of the lake by running in close proximity Hachinger Bach was not performed for water protection technical reasons. The approximately 700 m long path around the lake island is a popular natural ice track during the winter.

The park offers ball game and table tennis courts, curling and a small open-air theater ( the theatron ). Embedded in the park are a skating stadium with 400 - meter track and the Michaelibad with indoor and outdoor bathing area. On the north shore of the lake, the beer garden is Michaeligarten ( 3,000 seats, restaurant with restaurant, Haberl gastronomy).

Just south of the park ( in the Quiddestraße ) is the youth cultural center of the Festspielhaus.

Beginning of the 1970s there was also a covered with mats ski jump in the East Park.
