Ostrog monastery

The Monastery of Ostrog in Montenegro is one of the most important monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The monastery is situated approximately 15 miles from Danilovgrad towards Nikšić. It lies on the slope of Prekornica Mountains to the river Zeta level ( Bjelopavlićko level).

The monastery was founded in 1656, founded by the Metropolitan of Hum and Herzegovina, Basil Jovanović, who lived until his death in 1671 there. Here the body of St Basil is kept.

It is visited every year by thousands of believers.
