Ostropol

Stary Ostropil (Ukrainian Старий Остропіль; Russian Старый Острополь / Stary Ostropol ) is a town in the Khmelnytskyi Oblast of Ukraine with about 1350 inhabitants ( 2004). Stary Ostropil lies on the River Slutsch and forms with the village Rajky ( Райки ) a district municipality.

History

The fortress was founded in 1576 Ostropil. In the 17th and 18th centuries it was an important center of Jewish life, which has also reflected in Jewish folklore, see Hershele Ostropoler.
