The Ossuga (Russian Осуга ) is a 167 km long river in the European part of Russia. It is a right and the largest tributary of the Twerza in the river system of the Volga.

Course

The Ossuga rises on the southeastern edge of the ridge Zninskaja woswyschennost (Russian Цнинская возвышенность ), an offshoot of the Valdai Hills in the central Tver Oblast. It flows initially in an easterly direction and you soon come to Kuwschinowo. The river is 4-6 meters wide and polluted by wastewater from the local paper mill.

In Kuwschinowo the Ossuga turns to the southeast, but bends already after a few kilometers to the northeast. The river flows very winding through the wooded central Tver Oblast and is wide and 1-1.2 meters deep in its middle reaches 20-30 meters.

In Twerezki the Ossuga finally reaches the Twerza.

Use

The Ossuga is a popular destination for anglers and boaters in the ice-free season from April to November. The river is mainly fed by melt water.
