Osuitok Ipeelee
Osuitok Ipeelee ( born November 13, 1923 in Neeouleeutalik Camp, Nunavut, † December 31, 2005 in Cape Dorset, Canada) was a Canadian Inuit sculptor and printmaker.
Life and work
Oshaweetok / B Oshooweetook known as Osuitok Ipeelee lived all his life in Cape Dorset. Even his ancestors lived in West Baffin Iceland and were known for their intricate carvings. His sculptures in green soapstone, mostly caribou and other arctic animals, as well as its made on the type of woodblock prints have made the artist as a representative of the Inuit culture and the Cape Dorset school, well over Canada also known.
Occasionally the artist's sculptures are found in the auction trade.
