Othonoi

Is Othonoi (Greek Οθωνοί [ ɔθɔni ] (f. pl. ) ) With about 550 inhabitants and an area of about 10 square kilometers, the largest of the Diapontia or Othonischen Islands.

By 2010 Othonoi (along with the uninhabited islands Kastrino and Ostrako ) an independent municipality (Greek kinotita κοινότητα ) within the Prefecture of Corfu, since the administrative reform in 2010 it belongs to the new municipality Corfu, where it has since formed one of 15 community districts.

Othonoi is the westernmost island of Greece. It is located about 20 km northwest of Corfu and just 78 km from the Cape of Otranto the Italian peninsula. The island has a length of 5.6 km with a width of 3.6 km in the east-west direction. With 393 meters of the country Fano or Merovigli is the highest point on the island.

Most of the inhabitants live on agriculture (mainly olives) and of fishing and very little tourism. There is a ferry to Corfu town ( also transports cars) and Agios Stefanos, located in the North of the Corfu tourist places and excursions are offered. In addition to the harbor Ammos there is the former capital of Chorio and several over the island distributed settlements and farms.
