The Oticon A / S is a Danish manufacturer of hearing aids. A German subsidiary was founded in 1969 in Hamburg as a limited company.

History

The Oticon A / S was founded in 1904 by Hans Jørgen Demant in Denmark as an import company for hearing aid from the United States. After his death, his son William Demant took over the business.

In 1946, the first hearing aid manufactured in Denmark, Oticon TA, on the market. In the 1960s, Oticon founded the first branch offices in Europe and overseas, the Oticon GmbH was founded in 1969.

Under the umbrella of William Demant Holding meanwhile combine several specialized providers of audiological products. In addition to the Oticon hearing aid devices, including trade - mark " Bernafon " which manufactures diagnostic instruments " Maico Diagnostics" and "Inter Acoustics " and the provider of wireless and digital communication solutions Sennheiser and PhonicEar. Products

Until the 1990s, the Oticon hearing aids based on an analog technology, then was switched to digital technology. Other new features, such as fully automatic models and digital amplifier, found their way into the supply program. In 2007, the first binaural hearing aids Oticon came on the market, which communicate via wireless technology and form a unit.

Research and Development

In 1977, Oticon founded the research center " Erik Holm" in Snekkersten / Denmark. Here, scientists from different countries with about 1,000 volunteers together to deepen the knowledge about hearing.
