The Otkrytije Arena (Russian Открытие Арена ) and the Spartak Stadium is a football stadium under construction in the Russian capital Moscow. The stadium is after its completion provide 42,000 spectators and is home stadium of Spartak Moscow.

Prehistory

The Russian giants Spartak Moscow was in contrast to his local rivals never "own " stadium and wore its home games in varying stages of: First, in the square of Lokomotiv Moscow, later in the Dynamo stadium and the Eduard- Strelzow Stadium (home Torpedo Moscow, meanwhile also FK Moscow), since 1956, finally in the Luzhniki Stadium, but the considered as the home stadium of Torpedo Moscow.

Unlike the other Moscow clubs Spartak was sponsored during the Soviet era by any ministry or department of the party, so that could be considered only after the political change in 1991 from realizing plans for the construction of a stadium for its team. First steps in this direction have already been taken in 1994. The association received by the City Council a site near the Botanical Gardens assigned by successful protests from environmentalists and local residents, however, had to be found in another location.

The construction of the stadium was thus still further delayed. Since the plans concretized in the meantime towards a pure football arena, finally, the stadium size was discussed alongside the question of a suitable site. Did first drafts still around 65,000 spaces in front, the management of club and the city government in 2001 finally agreed on an arena concept with 52,000 spectators in a central location. New building on the outskirts of Moscow
