ÅŒtomo no Tabito

Ōtomo no Tabito (Japanese大 伴 旅人; * 665, † 731 ) was a Japanese poet of antiquity. He is better known as the father of Ōtomo no Yakamochi. Both were co-editor of one of the most important anthologies of Japanese literature, history, Manyoshu.

He joined in the year 728 a new post in Dazaifu. Shortly after his wife died, who had accompanied him. His memories than two years later aged 66 circled on his return to the capital of Cape Minume are obtained in this work poem 3-450. His feelings on returning to the now empty house in 3-451 and 3-452 poem. A little later he dies.

The poem 3-344 of Manyoshu is a hymn of Ōtomo the Sake:

「あな 醜 賢しら を す と 酒 飲ま ぬ 人 を よく 見れ ば 猿 に かも 似る」

「 Ana miniku sakashira o su to sake nomanu hito o yoku mireba saru ni ka mo niru 」

"Oh, how ugly. Look carefully at it to you, the man who is arrogant and would not drink sake, and he looks exactly like a monkey from. "
