Otoscope

The otoscope (from Greek οὖς, gene. Ὠτός "ear" and σκοπέω " look ") is a unit of the ENT physician and hearing aid dispenser for observation and examination of the external auditory canal, including the tympanic membrane ( otoscopy ).

It consists of a handle containing a battery or an accumulator, the light source and a funnel, which is inserted into the ear.

A Videootoskop is an otoscope with a built- CCD camera and cold light source, which transmits its images directly to a screen or a video or hard disk recorder. It allows its enlargement a more differentiated diagnosis of the tympanic membrane and the external auditory canal.

History

Today's standard ear funnels of various sizes, which are plugged into otoscopes were developed in the first half of the 19th century ( as the inventor applies the French doctor Jean -Pierre Bonnafont ) and published by Anton von Troeltsch 1860.
