Otrobanda

Otrabanda, also Otrobanda, is a district of Willemstad on Curaçao. With the opposite Punda Otrabanda forms the historic center of Willemstad.

The district was created from the beginning of the 18th century, the architecture contributes significantly Dutch character. Since 1886, there was a pontoon bridge, Queen Emma Bridge in the newer parts of the city, since 1974, the Queen Juliana Bridge.

The Dutch entrepreneur Jacob Gelt Dekker has created in 2001 in restored old buildings, the five star Hotel Kura Hulanda ( Papiamentu for " Dutch Courtyard " ) here. Connected to the hotel is also a convention center and the Kura Hulanda Museum, which deals with the history of slavery in the West Indies.
