Otsego County (Michigan)

Otsego County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Gaylord.

Geography

The County is located in the north of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and has an area of 1362 square kilometers, of which 30 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cheboygan County, Montmorency County, Crawford County, County Antrim and Charlevoix County.

History

Otsego County was formed in 1840 from parts of Mackinac County. Until 1843 it was called Okkudo County. It was named in New York, the former home of many of the first settlers in the area after the Otsego County.
