Ottana

Ottana is a place in the province of Nuoro in the Italian region Sardinia with 2358 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). Ottana lies south of Schnellstrase SS131 approximately 30 km west of Nuoro.

Ottana was formerly the center of the pastoral industry and known for archaic customs. The black Trachytkirche San Nicola is the only single-nave cathedral Sardinia. It was built in the first half of the 12th century on the ruins of a Byzantine church. Ottana was until 1503 a bishopric.
