Ottawa Islands

The Ottawa Islands are an archipelago in the east of Hudson Bay in Canada, located west of the Labrador Peninsula. Politically they belong to the region Qikiqtaaluk of the territory of Nunavut.

Geography

The Ottawa Islands are situated about 100 km from Pointe aux Ecueils located on the west coast of Ungava Peninsula in northern Labrador. To Mansel Island in the north, the distance is about 175 km, to the Belcher in the south about 250 kilometers. The archipelago consists of nine major islands ( principal islands ) as well as countless small and tiny islands and rocks extending from northeast to southwest over a length of over 100 kilometers parallel to the coast. The total land area of ​​all islands is 200 km ². The barren and mountainous islands are made of black volcanic rock and reach the Mount Allan Gilmour Iceland on a height of 344 meters above the sea.
