Otterfing is the northernmost municipality in the Upper Bavarian district Miesbach and lies in the southern catchment area of Munich.

Geography

Otterfing is on Endmoränenhügeln the last ice age in the alpine foothills overlooking the Mangfallgebirge. The village Otterfing located in the middle of Upper Bavaria at the federal highway 13, just 4 km north of wooden churches directly on the southern boundary of the district of Munich. In the north Hofoldinger forestry limits the municipality. After the dissolution of this forest area as unincorporated territory parts of it were added to 1 January 2011 Otterfing.

In the city of Munich is 30 km away, to the city of Mies Bach 23 km, to Wolfratshausen 21 km, 22 km to Bad Tölz and to Rosenheim 37 km.

History

Archaeological finds prove the settlement already in the Celtic period. 1942, the body of a woman grave dating from the late Roman period was discovered (about 350-355 AD) in excavation near the station. Among other grave goods also a coin from the reign of Constantius II was recovered from 1.30 meters depth.

Documented Otterfing was first mentioned in 1003 in a traditional book of the Tegernsee monastery as " Otolvinga ". After many different spellings of the place is called already in 1568 in the Bavarian, country tables of Philipp Apian as Otterfing.

An independent municipality is Otterfing since the administrative reforms in Bavaria from 1818.

Until July 1, 1972 Otterfing belonged to the former county Wolfratshausen. When it was merged with the district of Bad Tölz to Otterfing joined the Miesbach.

Districts

Besides Otterfing itself there are five districts:

  • Bergham, about 0.5 km west of the town center
  • Heigenkam, about 2.4 km north-west
  • Holzham, about 0.7 km south-east
  • Palnkam, approximately 1.6 km southwest of the town center and 1 km west of the state road 13
  • Wettlkam, about 2.2 km north-west

Population Development

On the territory of the municipality were 1818 435, 1875 629 and then counted 768 inhabitants in 1945. Due to the influx of displaced persons of World War II, the number nearly doubled to 1,492 in 1950. As a stop on the Munich S-Bahn was a rapid development: 1975 2.489 in 2000 and then 4,122 inhabitants. The end of 2009 were counted 4,422 citizens.

Coat of arms

Otterfing leads only since 1972 its own coat of arms.

It shows on a blue background above the three golden crowns of the Tegernsee monastery. In the middle two silver ibex from the arms are to be seen those short of Senftenau, which comes from the comital Valley.
