Ottignies -Louvain- la -Neuve ( Walloon Ocgniye -Li Nou Lovén ) is a university town in the French-speaking province of Walloon Brabant in Belgium. It consists of four districts: Ottignies, Limelette, Céroux -Mousty and Louvain- la -Neuve. Limelette and Céroux -Mousty were independent until 1977 and were incorporated as part of local government reform, through which the number of Belgian municipalities was reduced from 2359 to 596. Louvain- la -Neuve was built in the early 1970s on until then largely undeveloped area of the former town Ottignies for the Université catholique de Louvain, after it had been decided this due to the Flemish- Walloon conflict of Leuven ( Leuven larger needles, French Louvain ) to lay.

Geography

Ottignies -Louvain- la -Neuve is located in the center of the province of Walloon Brabant, about 10 kilometers southwest of the capital Wavre.

The municipal council ( Conseil Communal ) has 29 members, out of him the Collège with the mayor and six aldermen ( Echevins ) is formed.

Mayor

The mayor, Jean -Luc Roland, one of the founders of the party Ecolo, is one of the first green mayor in Belgium. He held office since 2001., He was elected for a second term as a result of the local elections on October 8, 2006.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of Ottignies -Louvain- la -Neuve is a quartered shield. The four fields were selected so that all four districts can feel represented. The first field in gold is divided by a blue ribbon (Family de clips ) and stands for Ottignies and Mousty. The second shows the coat of arms Colopma family in blue with a golden band accompanied by two silver doves diagonally divided with eight dew on the golden edge and stands for Céroux. The third in blue shows a golden cross and four golden shells; it is the coat of arms of Anne- Josèphe de la Croix, Abbess of Florival 1733-1749, and was located in the wall of a farm on the territory of today Louvain- la -Neuve. The fourth in gold shows three red roosters for Limelette. The coat of arms was adopted on 18 December 1991.

Twinning

Ottignies -Louvain- la -Neuve has three cities formed a partnership: Jassans- Riottier in France, Veszprém in Hungary and Tiassalé in the Ivory Coast. In addition, treaties of friendship with Masaya in Nicaragua and Draganesti exist in Romania.

Traffic

Ottignies -Louvain- la -Neuve has a freeway connection to the provincial capital Wavre. There are also rail links to Brussels, Namur, Wavre, Leuven and Charleroi. The plan is a connection to the RER Brussels.

University

In Louvain- la -Neuve district is the French-speaking Université catholique de Louvain.
