Ottmar Hitzfeld ( born January 12, 1949 in Lörrach ) is a former German football player and current football coach. As a player, he became Swiss champion twice. During his time as a player Hitzfeld studied mathematics and physical education to become a teacher. As a coach, he also won two Swiss championships and was seven times German champion. In 1997, he became the coach with Borussia Dortmund UEFA Champions League, in 2001 he won the same competition with Bayern Munich. He is behind Josep Guardiola 's second most successful coach in the Bundesliga on average points per game. Since summer 2008 he has been coach of the Swiss national team.

Childhood

Hitzfeld grew up as the youngest of five siblings in the southern Baden Lörrach, directly on the border with Switzerland, at. His father was a dentist. It received its name in accordance with Ottmar Walter, the football player of the 1st FC Kaiserslautern.

Career as a player

Hitzfeld was a youth player at TuS Stetten and later played at FV Lörrach.
