Otto Arosemena

Otto Arosemena Gómez ( born July 19, 1925 in Guayaquil, Guayaquil † April 20, 1984 ) was an Ecuadorian politician and lawyer, and from 16 November 1966 to August 31, 1968 President of his country.

He graduated at the University of Guayaquil his law studies with a doctorate and was then attorney. In 1957, he was President of the Parliament and senator from 1960. He founded the Party Coalition Institucionalista, Republican, for which he entered into the parliament and Clemente Yerovi followed as president.

The elections in 1968 won José María Velasco Ibarra, who was in turn overthrown by a military coup. In 1979 Ecuador returned to democracy. In the same year Arosemena moved again to parliament. In 1980, he shot an opposing parliamentarians in the legs and spent the last years of his life in prison.
