Otto, Duke of Lorraine

Otto von Verdun ( † spring 944 ) was a Count of Verdun and a Duke of Lotharingia from 940. He was the son of 923 murdered Count Richwin of Verdun, where he could succeed in Verdun probably, although he was never called by the title of Count.

Otto was founded by King Otto I the Great with the ruling power as prefect ( praeficiensque regioni Lothariorum ) entrusted the year 940 in Lotharingia, after the king 's brother Henry had been deposited there. As rightful Duke of Lotharingia, the king had the minor son of the former Duke Giselbert, who also was recognized Heinrich, Otto should only rule for this as a guardian.

Otto died in the spring of 944 Apparently his protege had died before him, as the king sat after the death of Otto Konrad immediately as the Red Duke of Lotharingia in one, without compromising the son of Giselbert was considered or mentioned. In Verdun Count Rudolf was called 949.
