Otto Gleichmann

Otto DC Mann ( born August 20, 1887 in Mainz, † November 2, 1963 in Hannover ) is considered one of the great loner of German Expressionism.

Life

Otto DC, he studied from 1906-1910 at the art academies in Dusseldorf, Wroclaw and Weimar.

Middle of the First World War in 1915 he married the artist Lotte Giese. Since 1919 he lived in Hanover; 1923 art teacher at secondary school.

His work includes oil paintings, watercolors, drawings, lithographs and mixed media, which, inter alia, are shaped by the experiences and impressions in the first world war, in the twenties and thirties, and by the catastrophic threat of Nazism. 1915 Front Unit, 1916 wounded and hospital stay. 1918 was carried out jointly with his wife's connection to the group " Hanover Secession ", which included, among other artists such as Kurt Schwitters. DC man used an intense friendship with Theodor Däubler.

1936 exhibition ban was imposed by the Nazi Party. In July 1937, three of his works were disparaged on the Nazi Degenerate Art exhibition. 27 of his works were confiscated by the Nazis. His grave - and that of his wife Lotte - located at the city cemetery Engesohde in Hanover.
