Otto I, Count of Savoy

Otto of Savoy (* 1030, † 1060 ) was Count of Savoy and the youngest son of Humbert I..

In 1046 he married Adelaide of Susa, a daughter - Ulrich Manfred, Margrave of Turin from the family of Arduine. The marriage brought him numerous territories in Piedmont and access to the Mediterranean.

After his death in 1060 his wife Adelheid took over the regency. In the Investiture Controversy she was zealous advocate of the Ghibellines. After her death in 1091 Savoy lost the territories east of the Alps, with the exception of Susa.

Otto and Adelheid had the following children:

  • Peter I will be his successor. His mother Adelheid survived him and exerted a strong influence on him.
  • Amadeus II ∞ Joan of Geneva, after the death of his brother Peter I. in 1078 went on this line of the House of Savoy.
