Otto II, Count of Guelders

Otto II of funds (* 1215, † January 10, 1271, called the Lame ) was Count of funds of 22 October 1229 to his death.

Life

Otto II was the son of Count Gerhard IV. He was the most dependent on the imperial German prince of the empire in the Lower Rhineland. He often mediated in many feuds its surroundings and was even drawn in by his Besitzverschachtelungen in Westphalia in many feuds, among other things, with the Earl of Ravens mountain and Tecklenburg and with the bishops of Münster, Osnabrück and Paderborn. Otto acquires by purchase on March 3, 1243 the inherited rights and possessions of Adolf I. Counts of Mark and Krieckenbeck at County Krieckenbeck and integrates them into his country funds.

Otto II achieved a pre-eminent position in Lower Lorraine as guardian of the Duke of Brabant and the Count of Holland (from 1261/62 ). He won sovereignty over many reigns as Groenlo, Bredevoort and Lichtenvoorde. At times he was screen Vogt of Cologne. He was founder of major cities ( " city Zutphener law "). Among other things, he founded money ( 1229 ), Goch ( 1230 ), Roermond ( 1231 ), Harderwijk ( 1231 ), Grave ( 1232), Emmerich ( 1233 ), Arnheim ( 1233 ), Doetinchem ( 1236 ), Doesburg ( 1237 ) and Wageningen ( 1263 ). In first marriage, he was married to Margarete of Cleves († September 10, 1251 ), daughter of Count Dietrich IV and Mechtild of Dinslaken (* 1195, † 1262 ( ?)). From this marriage came his two daughters Elizabeth and Magareta. In 2nd marriage, daughter of the Count of Ponthieu Simon out of the house he was with Philippa de Mello Dammartin () † 1277/81 (?) Married. From this connection his son Rainald I. and two more daughters were born.

Otto II is buried in Graefenthal monastery in Asperden.
