Otto III, Duke of Bavaria

Otto III. of Bavaria ( * February 11, 1261; † September 9, 1312 in Landshut ) came from the house of Wittelsbach. He was from 1290 to 1312 Duke of Lower Bavaria and as Béla V. 1305-1307 King of Hungary.

Life

Otto's father was Duke Henry XIII. , His grandfather Duke Otto II of Bavaria. About his mother Elizabeth of Hungary (1236-1271) he was entitled to the Hungarian throne.

Under an agreement brought about by his father Otto was the sole ruler of Lower Bavaria in 1290, and as his brothers Ludwig III. and Stephen I. mitregierten since 1294, this his command located below.

Otto was particularly interested in the acquisition of Styria. For this reason he pursued an anti - Habsburg policy and stood on the side of Adolf of Nassau against the Habsburgs Albrecht of Austria. 1292 Otto supported the anti-Habsburg uprising of the Federal Landsberger in Styria, although remaining unsuccessful. In 1298 he fought in the lost battle of Göllheim vain for Adolf, who came to death here, where he was wounded.

The new king Albrecht deprived him of, among other things, the former Hohenstaufen Goods Park stone and willow, which he transferred King Wenceslaus II of Bohemia.
