Otto Kahler

Otto Kahler ( born January 8, 1849 in Prague, † 24 January 1893 in Vienna) was an Austrian physician.

Life and work

He studied in his native city at the Karl- Ferdinand University and earned his PhD there in 1871. After the division of the university in 1882 in a German and a Czech university he taught and conducted research on the German university. In 1882 he was appointed associate professor in 1886 and professor and director of the 2nd Medical Clinic. In 1889 he succeeded by Heinrich von Bamberger professor of special pathology at the University of Vienna. In 1890 he fell ill with a tongue carcinoma, where he died in 1893. Kahler has become known primarily for his description of multiple myeloma or plasmacytoma. The disease, therefore, is also called " multiple myeloma " today rarely used. He is also considered a describer of syringomyelia.

In 1954 ( 22nd District ) was named the Bare street after him in Vienna Danube city.
