Otto Ludwig (writer)

Otto Ludwig ( born February 12, 1813 in Ice Field, † February 25, 1865 in Dresden ) was a German writer.

Life

Otto Ludwig was born in Thuringia, ice rink and went to elementary school. A year after his entry into the elementary school his father died, Ernst Friedrich, City Counsel and the Duke of Saxe- Meiningen Hofadvokat at the age of 46 years. In 1828 he moved to the high school Georgianum in the near Hildburghausen. In 1829 he left the school and went back already two years later to the Lyceum Saalfeld. In the same year his mother died Sophie Christiane born Otto. After two years' residence in Saalfeld, he returned to ice rink in his garden shed, where he was musical and literary studies devoted. In ice rink in 1834, he led the opera " The brothers and sisters " and " The Köhlerin " in the local clubhouse on.

In 1839 he began studying music in Leipzig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy with a grant from the Duke of Meiningen Bernhard II In the fall of 1840 he was forced to retire due to illness his studies and returned to his birthplace. In the same year he undertook a study scores in Meiningen.

Seven years later, in 1849, he moved to Dresden, after he had always lived a short time in different cities of Germany. A year after his move to Dresden concluded on March 4, 1850 at the local court theater his most successful drama " The Erbförster " premiered.

In 1852 he married Emily Winkler and had with her three children, who were born in 1852 ( Judah ), 1854 (Ernst Reinhold Otto ) and 1858 ( Cordelia ). In 1860 Ludwig became ill from a nervous illness, which he finally succumbed on 25 February 1865.

Otto Ludwig coined the term poetic realism, in which he describes a representation of reality, which is characterized by objectivity of the narrator perspective.

Monuments and Honors

In Eisfelder classical mansion of Otto Ludwig, a memorial has been established. There, in front of the house and in 1934 by the sculptor Charles Roehrig created monument, which is equipped with a bust of the young writer. The sculptor Arnold Kramer created a Marmorherme of the writer, which was unveiled in 1911 on the civil meadow in Dresden.

Another monument, a body set up by the Munich sculptor Adolf von Hildebrand than-life bronze bust on a marble base, since 1892 is in the landscape park Herrenberg in Meiningen. In the entrance hall of the Meiningen Theatre, a 1909 by Otto Lessing stands by Hildebrand design created bust of Louis.

Roads in ice rink, Dresden, Meiningen, Nordhausen and Berlin- Charlottenburg are named after the poet.
