Otto Scheff

Otto Scheff ( born December 12, 1889 in Berlin, † October 26, 1956 in Maria Grossenzersdorf ), actually Sochaczewsky Otto, was a successful Austrian swimmer.

Otto Scheff was born as the son of writer Heinrich Sochaczewsky (who probably published under the pseudonym Victor Falk ).

From the Austrian Swimming Federation, he was sent in 1905 to the World Championships in Paris, where the 15 -year-old sensational third parties over 340 m was. With this performance, he was able to qualify for the Olympic Games 1906 in Athens between. The first competition over 1,600 m he muffed, but over 400 m ( gold) and 1 mile ( Bronze) he achieved top rankings and was the first Austrian Olympic champion. In 1907, he then won the World Cup. After his athletic career Scheff worked as a lawyer in Vienna, was a member of the National Council (1945-1953 for the Austrian People's Party ) and Vice President of ÖOC. In 1988 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.

Died Scheff is in Maria Grossenzersdorf, where he is also buried at the cemetery romantics.

His daughter Gertraud Scheff ( born February 13, 1921 in Maria Grossenzersdorf; † July 8th, 2006 ibid ) was also a successful swimmer and was intended as Fixstarterin for the Olympic Summer Games 1940 in Tokyo.
