Otto V, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg

Otto V, the Victorious, also the Magnanimous ( * after 1418, † 1471 ), Duke of Brunswick -Lüneburg, was from 1464 to 1471 Prince of Lüneburg.

Life

Otto was the son of Frederick II ( Braunschweig- Lüneburg) and Magdalene of Brandenburg. After his brother died childless, Otto in 1464 took over the regency in the Principality of Lüneburg. Otto's work was determined by the monastic reform movements of his time, he was trying to implement in the Lüneburg monasteries. So he came to the monastery Wienhausen one, stole numerous art treasures which the ideal of monastic simplicity were contrary to the opinion of Otto, and the abbess sent for re-education in an already reformed monastery. According to legend, Otto said to have come at a tournament on the Celler Stechbahn killed. A horseshoe in the patch today identifies the location where you want to be an accident at the 1471 Duke Otto the Magnanimous.

In 1467, Otto married Anna V. Nassau and had a son with her:
