The Our ​​Airline ( Air Nauru to September 2006 ) is the national airline of Nauru.

History

The founding of the airline in 1970 was made possible thanks to the new wealth through their own phosphate mining on Nauru.

One of the first flights were those to Brisbane. The first aircraft was a machine of the type Dassault Falcon 20 The flight service was in the following years to the surrounding countries (Kiribati, Solomon Islands Fiji ) expanded. In 1976, the airline had introduced some Boeing aircraft, which remained in use until 1985. 1984, a new logo was designed. Other flights to Manila, Hong Kong, Auckland and Taipei have been established.

Because of the global recession in the 90s had to be canceled several flights (among Taipei, Auckland ). Under an agreement with the Australian airline Qantas Airways and Air New Zealand the Our ​​Airline flew from now on only the most profitable connections and sold in 1993 its entire fleet for a single Boeing 737 engine. The new jet was the decisive factor for a new redesign of the logo.

Towards the end of the 90s, a plan was created, which opens up the surrounding islands. He should bring in money from American tourists and provided for the leasing of a Douglas DC -8 jets for charter flights.

The airline is heavily subsidized by the state and is occasionally closed its doors. Despite the government subsidies the Our ​​Airline is always in deficit. In recent years, the subsidies went back, so that today some flights are canceled because of lack of money for fuel or repairs. The main purpose of Our Airline is the transport of domestic and foreign politicians and representatives from and to Nauru.

On 4 September 2004 Kinza Clodumar was dismissed as chairman of the former Air Nauru by the government. Parliamentarians Fabian Ribauw accused him of embezzlement, because he would act for the company BACF which Nauru allegedly borrowed $ 23 million as a mediator and thus against the government. On May 7, 2005 had the chairman of the executive, Geoffrey Bowmaker, denies rumors that the Nauruan airline would cease operations on May 20.

The Our ​​Airline and the Nauruan government at the Export-Import Bank of the United States and Wells Fargo debt of more than U.S. $ 10 million. Part of the debt should have been paid by the People's Republic of China, was as promised in 2002. However, since this never happened, the Nauruan Republic joined the diplomatic dispute between China and Taiwan, the Taiwan side and realized again.

Destinations

Permanent approach places the Our ​​Airline today are Brisbane, Honiara, Nauru, Tarawa and Majuro. The flight to Nadi was discontinued in early 2006 and is now resumed.
