Our Lady of the Sign

The Mother of God of the Sign (Russian Znamenie, Greek Platytera ) is a type of Byzantine, later following Russian icons of the Virgin as " The Merciful " or The Groundbreaking. The Mother of God of the sign is shown standing, often with hands raised in prayer. On the chest it wears a medallion with the image of Christ ( according to Isaiah 7:11: "The virgin will conceive a fetus and bear a son "). The Greek name Platytera, the Comprehensive, indicates a Marie hymn: " Your lap he made extensive than the sky ", so it is also called Platytera ton Ouranon ( wider than the sky) respectively.
