Ouray County, Colorado

Ouray County is a county in the southwest of the U.S. state of Colorado in the heart of the San Juan Mountains. Its landscape is dominated by numerous mountains that are higher than 4000 m. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is in Ouray.

Geography

Ouray is bordered by the districts of Gunnison in the Northeast Hinsdale in the southeast, San Juan in the south, San Miguel and Montrose in the southwest to the northwest.

History

Ouray County was formed on January 18, 1877 as the first to be founded in the newly formed state of Colorado from the largest part of the San Juan County and a small piece of Hinsdale County. The gold mining town of Ouray was founded on October 2, 1876 was determined on 8 March 1877 Headquarters. On February 19, 1881 originated from the southern part of the Ouray County Dolores County on February 27, 1883, the western part was self-employed as San Miguel County. In 1883, the Ouray County was renamed for a short time in the Uncompahgre County.
