Out-of-band infrastructure

OOBI stands for " Out of Band Infrastructure " and thus the opposite of in band.

" Ouf -of-band " means:

  • Control over the server, even if the network fails
  • Secure remote access to the server
  • Access via serial interface or direct control of the input devices ( KVM)

Basically, can fail at any time the network interface of a server or even the whole network. Thus, the administrator has no chance to reach the server " In Bounds " (via Ethernet ) and the error must be corrected on the spot at the terminal.

Not so with the use of " Out of Band Infrastructure " - products. By means of which it is possible to reach the computer via a "back door", either by console servers via the serial interface (RS232 ) or by the direct control of keyboard, mouse and monitor so-called KVM switches. In the case of absolute emergency, it is possible with the help of Power Managers and the IPDU protocol (Intelligent Power Distribution Unit ) to disconnect the power connection of servers and restart them hard.
