Outcrossing

Outcrossing and outcrossing ( outcrossing English ) refers to the inheritance of a property from a population or lineage to another. This occurs at the intersection of different lines, so fertilization between the considered property -owning line and one that lacks this property. Targeted outcrossing is used in breeding to introduce the desired properties in breeding lines and to avoid inbreeding depression. Special attention has energized the problem of outcrossing altered properties of genetically modified organisms, especially plants in wild relatives. Measures that prevent outcrossing, are therefore usually required in field trials.
