Outreau

Outreau is a commune with 14,482 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Pas -de- Calais, in the Nord -Pas -de -Calais. It belongs to the district of Boulogne- sur -Mer and is capital of the canton Outreau. The inhabitants are called Outrelois.

Neighboring communities of Outreau are Boulogne -sur -Mer in the north, Saint- Léonard in the east, Saint- Étienne -au -Mont in the south, Équihen -Plage in the southwest and Le Portel in the west and northwest.

Demographics

History

Under Flemish influence of the name of the village in the 9th century was still called Walbodinga, Walbodeghem as Wabingen. With the peace of Outreau 1550 was returned to the mainland for a payment of 400,000 gold ducats between England and France Boulogne.

With the Second World War Outreau experienced as the surrounding environment considerable destruction.
