As an outwork erected between Hauptumwallung and Glacis fortification is referred to, such as the caponier that Ravelin, the demi- lune, the horn works, the Kronwerk and Tenaille. Outdoor plants that were built separately contiguous or only by narrow gaps, form a envelope -called second circumvallation as it was intended since the late 17th century in various manners.
