Ouvans

Ouvans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Ouvans is located on 634 m above sea level, 12 km southeast of Baume- les -Dames and about 36 km east of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on the plateau of Chasalan between the ridge of the Grand Rocher in the north and the basin of Landresse in the south.

The area of ​​5.20 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the plateau of Chasalan, which is an average of 630 m. It is consisted of arable and meadow land and descends to the south of the trough Landresse. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. It shows various karst phenomena, such as caves and sinkholes. In the north the plateau is flanked by the wooded and partly rocky ridge of the Grand Rocher (710 m). To the east, the municipality's area in the Bois du Nezou and on the ridge of the Bois du Fahy extends. Here the highest elevation of Ouvans is achieved with 786 m.

Neighboring communities of Ouvans are Lanans and Vellevans in the north, Sancey -le- Grand to the east and Landresse the south and west.

History

In the Middle Ages Ouvans belonged to the rule Passavant, which was owned by the Lords of Montbéliard since the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since 1998 Ouvans is a member of the 44- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierre Fontaine - Vercel.

By 1 January 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Besançon, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Attractions

The village church of Ouvans was built in 1840.

Population

With 77 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Ouvans is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1901 144 people were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Ouvans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are almost no jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Vercel - Villedieu -le- Camp to Vellevans. Further road links exist with Lanans and Sancey- le -Grand.
